There are a lot of possible long-term effects of drug addiction and abuse. Long-term substance abuse changes the brain, leading to addiction and making it nearly impossible to stop using if not dealt with at an early stage .
1.Damage to brain cells : Most of these drugs are very toxic, and they kill brain cells. These cells are destroyed forever, and the damage is permanent.
2. Destroys Social Relationships: Because these drugs change your behaviour, they eventually affect your relationships with family and friends. This eventually forces society to stigmatize you and leads the drug addict to depression.
3. Problems with the Law : Many drugs are illegal and you can be fined, or sent to prison, for possessing them. If convicted of a drug offence, it could end up on your criminal record which even makes it harder to get a job.
4.Lead to Anxiety ; This usually takes effects when becomes very addicted and hasn’t had access to his or her drugs, which increases adrenaline and then alertness which allows you to respond in life threatening situations.
